Hoping to position himself for a shot at WBA Welterweight Champion Antonio Margarito, Shane Mosley takes on the brash Ricardo Mayorga. Mayorga catches and wobbles Mosley with a right hand in the opening round and builds an early lead, but Mosley comes back to lay into Mayorga with flush shots in the sixth round, to which Mayorga responds by nodding and goading Mosley on. In the twelfth and final round, Mosley wobbles Mayorga with a right hand and a left hook, sending the Nicaraguan crashing onto all fours. Although Mayorga beats the count, Mosley meets him on his feet with a left hook that flattens Mayorga with only one second left in the fight. Referee David Mendoza stops the fight without bothering to count, and Mayorga remains on the canvas for several minutes.
