Andre Ward has his coming out party in his opening Super Six World Boxing Classic bout when he lifts the WBA title from Mikkel Kessler in front of a hometown crowd in Oakland. The undefeated Ward takes Kessler to school, busting him up with swift power shots and getting out of harm's way for ten one-sided rounds before an accidental head butt opens a bad cut over Kessler's right eye. When the ringside doctor decides to stop the fight, the bout goes to the scorecards, where, despite the judges failing to score the eleventh round, Ward wins a conclusive technical decision to become champion.

Light Heavyweight Champion Bob Foster moves up to heavyweight to take on former Heavyweight Champion Muhammad Ali. Ali taunts and toys with the smaller Foster in the early going, not even bothering to fight in the third round. When he lets his hands go in the fifth, Ali knocks Foster down a ridiculous four times. The valiant Foster picks himself up off the canvas twice more in the seventh before Ali puts him down for good when Referee Mills Lane counts him out in round eight.
