Naseem Hamed vs. Paul Ingle
Lancashire, England
126 lbs
Joe Cortez
WBO Featherweight Championship
In his first fight since parting ways with lifetime trainer Brendan Ingle, undefeated WBO Featherweight Champion Naseem Hamed takes on undefeated challenger Paul Ingle. While Hamed is taking a long time being driven to the ring in a car for his big entrance, Ingle and his team leave the squared circle and end up coming back once the champion arrives. In the opening round, Hamed lands a left hand to the body and one to the head to fold Ingle up on his back for the first knockdown of the challenger's career. In the sixth, Hamed switches it up, putting Ingle on his knee with a left to the head, followed by one to the body. Out of nowhere, Ingle starts landing big punches in the ninth and tenth rounds, bloodying Hamed's nose and mouth. Hamed responds with a monstrous left hand in the eleventh that freezes Ingle before folding him up on his back once again. Although the brave challenger beats the count, Referee Joe Cortez stops the fight.
