IBF/WBO Featherweight Championship
Undefeated WBO Featherweight Champion Naseem Hamed moves to unify titles with IBF Champion Tom Johnson. Hamed shakes Johnson up with some big shots against the ropes in the third round, but Johnson answers with a big right hand before the bell that spins Hamed around and nearly makes his glove touch the canvas. After absorbing a left hand in the fourth, Johnson goes on unsteady legs but regains his composure enough to win the sixth. Hamed staggers Johnson with some left hands in the seventh round and hurts him again in the eighth before finally crumpling the IBF Champion with a huge uppercut. Johnson somehow beats the count, but Referee Rudy Battle sees how badly hurt he is and stops the fight.
