Some Like It Hot: Naseem Hamed vs. Daniel Alicea
Tyne and Wear, United Kingdom
126 lbs
Raul Caiz Sr.
WBO Featherweight Championship
After destroying Said Lawal in a single round, undefeated "Prince" Naseem Hamed makes the second defense of his WBO Featherweight Championship against undefeated Daniel Alicea. Although Hamed is carried to the ring on a throne and trash talks Alicea during the introductions, the champion ends up going down for the first time in his career in the opening round when Alicea stands his head up with a right hand and puts him on his backside with the next one. Hamed answers in force in the second round, turning orthodox and freezing Alicea with a right hand before putting him on his back with a left hook. Alicea gets up on wobbly legs and is floored again by an uppercut. When the challenger tries to get up, Referee Raul Caiz Sr. holds him down, having seen enough, and stops the fight.
