In the first defense of his IBF Lightweight Championship, Pernell Whitaker annihilates Louie Lomeli in three rounds. Whitaker stuns the challenger in each of the first two rounds before Lomeli runs into a counter left hand that folds him up on the canvas in the third. Lomeli valiantly beats the count but absorbs punishment from Whitaker against the ropes until Referee Al Rothenberg stops the fight.
