Sergei Liakhovich lifts the WBO title from Lamon Brewster in one of the greatest heavyweight fights of all time. After falling behind on points early, Brewster hurts Liakhovich with a right hand in the fifth round and rains bombs on him but fails to put the challenger away. They continue to wreck each other in the sixth before Liakhovich takes his turn to hurt Brewster to the body and then to the head. Both fighters are hurt in round seven, but it is Liakhovich who wilts to a knee under heavy punishment to the body and head at the end of the round. The challenger regroups and has Brewster wobbling badly after a right hand in the ninth round. A left hook from Liakhovich wobbles Brewster again in the eleventh. Brewster gives everything he has left in the tank in the twelfth but loses his title via unanimous decision. Neither man is ever the same, especially Brewster, who suffers a detached retina in the fight.
