On the undercard of a bout between WBC Heavyweight Champion Lennox Lewis and Tony Tucker, undefeated WBC Super Lightweight Champion Julio Cesar Chavez defends his title on Cinco de Mayo weekend against veteran of more than 60 fights, Terrence Alli. Chavez buckles Alli's legs with a right hand in the first round, wobbles him with a left hook in the second and knocks his mouthpiece out in the third and fourth rounds, but the challenger is willing to stand and slug it out with him. The champion's power starts to win out at the end of the fifth as he batters Alli until the bell and puts him down on his back with a combination to begin the sixth. Alli beats the count and withstands another assault, but Referee Carlos Padilla questionably stops the fight as Alli is throwing back, putting a damper on an otherwise terrific battle.
