Super Grand Slam Of Boxing: Julio Cesar Chavez vs. Frankie Randall I
Las Vegas, NV
140 lbs
Richard Steele
WBC Super Lightweight Championship
Frankie Randall scores a monumental upset by becoming the first man to officially defeat WBC Super Lightweight Champion Julio Cesar Chavez. First out boxing and then out fighting Chavez, Randall picks up two points when Referee Richard Steele docks the champion for low blows in the seventh and eleventh rounds. Also in round eleven, Randall lands a beautiful one-two that puts Chavez on the canvas for the first time in his career. Chavez beats the count but cannot muster another big comeback in the final round. Despite bizarre scoring from the judges, Randall completes the upset with a split decision victory.
