WBC and WBA Lightweight Champion Julio Cesar Chavez moves up to 140 pounds to take on WBC Super Lightweight Champion Roger Mayweather in a rematch from four years prior.

Undefeated IBF Super Lightweight Champion Kostya Tszyu returns to his adopted homeland of Australia to defend his title against former champion Roger Mayweather. Mayweather proves difficult for Tszyu to hit, but the champion out works him in virtually every round and has Roger bleeding from the right eye after the sixth. In the ninth, Mayweather returns the favor by cutting Tszyu after several clean right hands. Mayweather loses a point for a low blow in the twelfth before both men score with hard, flush shots to close the show with some of the only quality action all night. After twelve rounds, Tszyu is declared the winner by a landslide unanimous decision.

Harold Brazier, in his biggest fight to date, had the champion Mayweather practically out on his feet in rounds just about every one of the last four rounds. However, Brazier never followed up and finished Mayweather. Later stated by the unsuccessful challenger Brazier, "I had him in the palm of my hands." But it was Mayweather who battled back ferociously enough from those poundings to gain a victory. However, Brazier nevertheless made a great showing and he soon received a second shot at a world title, this time against Juan Martin Coggi, which he lost in more convincing fashion.
