Kostya Tszyu makes the first defense of his WBC Super Lightweight Championship against game contender Ahmed Santos. Santos shows a good chin in taking hard shots from Tszyu until a straight right hand shakes him up in the fifth round. Three uppercuts from Tszyu in the eighth finally get the job done in dropping Santos onto his hands and knees. Although he beats the count, Santos is in bad shape and is knocked back to the canvas by a right hand to the back of the head from Tszyu. In a bad call, Referee Frank Cappuccino stops the fight anyway, giving Tszyu the win.

Undisputed Super Lightweight Champion Kostya Tszyu makes the first defense of his titles against durable contender Ben Tackie. Tszyu is content to out box Tackie for the opening rounds but, after taking a hard right hand in the third, starts to shake the challenger up with some big right hands of his own in the fourth and fifth rounds. Although Tackie stands in and takes Tszyu twelve rounds, the champion pitches a virtual shutout on the scorecards in an impressive performance.

Making the third defense of his IBF Super Lightweight Championship on his home turf in Australia, Kostya Tszyu destroys challenger Corey Johnson in four one-sided rounds. Tszyu tears into Johnson from the opening round and hurts him in the second with a straight right hand. After taking a knee from an accumulation of body shots in the third round, Johnson goes for broke in the fourth, but Tszyu beats him down to a knee once more with a body assault. Johnson looks to his corner and opts to remain down while Referee Billy Males counts him out.
