Kostya Tszyu makes the first defense of his WBC Super Lightweight Championship against game contender Ahmed Santos. Santos shows a good chin in taking hard shots from Tszyu until a straight right hand shakes him up in the fifth round. Three uppercuts from Tszyu in the eighth finally get the job done in dropping Santos onto his hands and knees. Although he beats the count, Santos is in bad shape and is knocked back to the canvas by a right hand to the back of the head from Tszyu. In a bad call, Referee Frank Cappuccino stops the fight anyway, giving Tszyu the win.
