IBF Cruiserweight Championship
Former Light Heavyweight titlist Tomasz Adamek moves up to 190 pounds to challenge IBF Cruiserweight Champion Steve Cunningham in a classic confrontation. They let their hands fly in the second round, resulting in Cunningham going down on his side from a right hand and left hook from the challenger just before the bell. Cunningham comes back to badly hurt Adamek in the fourth and beats him around the ring until walking into a right hand that knocks him into the ropes. After being bombed by Cunningham in the seventh round, Adamek suddenly scores with a left hook that freezes the champion and puts him down on a knee in the eighth. Cunningham comes on strong over the final three rounds but fails to score the knockout he needs to retain his title, and Adamek becomes a two-division champion by split decision.
