This was Leonard's first fight against a ranked opponent. Ramon was ranked 10th by the NABF. 7,277 attended the fight. It was the second largest crowd in the history of the Civic Center. The Associated Press reported: "Leonard scored the only two knockdowns of the lopsided fight. He floored the five-foot-three Ramon with a right hand just before the end of the first round.
