Fighting for the first time in over a year after his squabbles with Top Rank and eventually becoming the flagship fighter in 50 Cent's new SMS Promotions, Gamboa won the interim WBA title at 130 by defeating the game Farenas. Gamboa was dropped hard by Farenas late, but survived to win wide on the cards.
