Undefeated IBF Lightweight Champion Shane Mosley makes the first defense of his crown against the tough Manuel Gomez. Gomez stands and fights with the champion and is dropped onto his hands and knees by a right hand to the top of the head at the end of the fourth. The challenger lands his share of good shots in the sixth round, but Mosley comes back to blast away at him in the seventh and eighth. Mosley closes the show when Gomez walks into a right hand that makes him go limp and collapses him onto his side in the eleventh round. Although Gomez waves his corner off, they throw in the towel on his behalf while he is lying on the canvas, giving Mosley a highlight reel knockout.
