Berbick shouts at Holmes and taunts him during the opening round, prompting Holmes to shove him after the bell. The challenger ends up knocking Referee Mills Lane over while trying to get to Holmes. Holmes staggers Berbick in the second round and several more times during the bout, but Berbick continues to run his mouth and briefly stuns Holmes in the fifth. After fifteen rounds, Holmes clearly defends his title with a unanimous decision.
