Imminent Danger: Larry Holmes vs. Renaldo Snipes

Renaldo Snipes nearly shocks the world when he challenges Heavyweight Champion Larry Holmes in the champion's home state of Pennsylvania. After being dominated for the first six rounds, Snipes lands a huge straight right hand across the mouth of Holmes that buckles his knees and sends him crashing onto his back. Holmes instantly gets back to his feet and almost collapses into a corner of the ring; however, he makes a remarkable recovery and comes back to blast Snipes with power shots for the second half of the round. The champion continues to punish Snipes and hurts him with a one-two early in the eleventh. Although Snipes remains on his feet, he takes heavy punishment until Referee Rudy Ortega stops the fight. Rather than leave with his head high after knocking Holmes down, Snipes embarrasses himself by continuing to talk trash, which instigates another altercation with Holmes over top of Howard Cosell.
