Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. vs. Marco Antonio Rubio
San Antonio, TX
160 lbs
Jose Guadalupe Garcia
WBC 160
For his second defense of the WBC title, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. took on the battle-tested Marco Antonio Rubio, who earned the spot by dealing Canadian power-punching prospect David Lemieux his first loss. Chavez Jr. proved to be Rubio's superior in power and inside fighting, but Rubio had his moments and was able to win from between two to five rounds on the final cards. Afterwards, Rubio accused Chavez Jr. of using PEDs to account for what he perceived to be Chavez Jr.'s abnormal stamina. Neither the WBC nor the Texas Commission administered post-fight drug tests.
