Homecoming: Ricky Hatton vs. Juan Lazcano
Manchester, England
140 lbs
Howard John Foster
After suffering the first loss of his career at the hands of Floyd Mayweather Jr., Ricky Hatton returns to the junior welterweight division where he is still king to take on experienced lightweight challenger Juan Lazcano in front of a hometown crowd in Manchester. Hatton proves he has not lost a step as he trades leather with Lazcano for twelve rounds. In the eighth, Lazcano manages to stun Hatton with a left hook, but Hatton comes back to stun the challenger in return later in the round. Lazcano again hurts Hatton with a left hook in the tenth, but Referee Howard John Foster intervenes to lecture him about holding behind the head and then gives Hatton more recovery time to have his shoe retied. Two brief scares aside, Hatton's punches carry the day and he wins a wide unanimous decision.
