Muhammad Ali vs. Jimmy Young
Landover, MD
Heavyweight lbs
Tom Kelly
WBC/WBA Heavyweight Championship
An out-of-shape Muhammad Ali escapes with a win against Jimmy Young in a fight surprisingly filled with drama. Young makes life difficult for the Heavyweight Champion by forcing him to make the fight and not falling prey to Ali's early rounds rope-a-dope or ninth round dance routine. Ali comes on strong in the later rounds, battering Young into and through the ropes on several occasions, one of which is ruled a knockdown by Referee Tom Kelly in the twelfth round. In the end, the judges decide Young has not done enough to take the title and award Ali an unpopular unanimous decision.
