Lennox Lewis vs. Henry Akinwande
Stateline, NV
Heavyweight lbs
Mills Lane
WBC Heavyweight Championship
Undefeated WBO Heavyweight Champion Henry Akinwande vacates his title to challenge WBC Champion Lennox Lewis in a battle of Brits, but the fight quickly grows ugly as Akinwande resolves to hold every time Lewis hits him. Referee Mills Lane has to deduct a point from Akinwande as early as the second round and calls time to talk with him and his trainer about it. In the third round, Akinwande makes Lewis touch a glove to the canvas after landing a right hand and pushing the champion's head down; however, Lane has to lecture him once more about holding in the fourth. Finally, after clearly informing Akinwande and his trainer that he will end the fight just as he had the rematch between Evander Holyfield and Mike Tyson two weeks prior, Lane has no choice but to disqualify the challenger for holding in the fifth round.
