WBC Welterweight Championship
After beating "Sugar" Ray Leonard in the final fight of the legendary fighter's career, Hector Camacho publicly challenges WBC Welterweight Champion Oscar De La Hoya. De La Hoya takes the fight and agrees to a wager of $200,000 should he lose but the opportunity to cut off Camacho's trademark front curl should he win. Oscar silences Camacho with a dominant performance, hurting the challenger on several occasions and eventually knocking him down with an assault in the ninth round. Camacho survives albeit by losing a point for excessive holding as well as the fight. Afterward, Camacho weasels out of paying up on the bet by claiming he earned the right to keep his hairstyle simply by going twelve rounds.
