WBC Super Lightweight Championship

Julio Cesar Chavez tries to avenge the only official loss of his career when he takes on WBC Super Lightweight Champion Frankie Randall in an immediate rematch on the weekend of Cinco de Mayo. Randall is just as sharp from the outset, buckling Chavez's knees with a right hand in the second round and nearly putting him on the canvas once more. Chavez gets back into the fight by boxing from a distance, but Randall again beats him in close quarters. At the end of the eighth round, Chavez suffers a bad cut over his right eye from a clash of heads. According to the bizarre WBC rules, Referee Mills Lane deducts a point from Randall, and the ringside doctor sends the fight to the scorecards when Chavez indicates that he does not want to continue. The judges are split but surprisingly see it in Chavez's favor by technical decision, at which point Randall storms out of the ring in frustration.
