Heavyweight Showdown: Corrie Sanders vs. Hasim Rahman
Las Vegas, NV
Heavyweight lbs
Eddie Cotton
Hasim Rahman and Corrie Sanders go to war in a heavyweight knockdown drag out to get in line for a title shot. Sanders lands some hard left hands in the opening round, but Rahman catches him with a big right hand before the bell. After eating another right in the second, Sanders starts shaking Rahman up with his own power shots. In the third round, Rahman walks into an uppercut and collapses onto the top rope, which Referee Eddie Cotton rules a knockdown. Sanders attacks after Rahman argues with Cotton but walks into a one-two that turns him around and drops him onto his face on the canvas. Getting up too quickly, Sanders takes another knee to recuperate and survives the round. In the fourth, Sanders blasts Rahman with left hands but eats a counter right hand that again rolls him onto all fours on the canvas while Rahman grabs the ropes to stay upright. Rahman continues the punishment in the sixth, knocking Sanders's mouthpiece out with a right. He closes the show in the seventh, hurting Sanders with a straight right hand and pounding away at him with dozens of unanswered shots, forcing Cotton to stop Sanders on his feet and ending a classic.
