In his quest for a title in a second division, WBC Welterweight Champion "Sugar" Ray Leonard moves up to super welterweight to take on WBA Champion Ayub Kalule in Houston. Leonard hurts Kalule early in the fight, sparking some terrific exchanges in the fourth and fifth rounds. Finally, Leonard floors the champion with a combination in the ninth round. Although Kalule beats the count, he indicates to Referee Carlos Berrocal that he wants the fight stopped, and Leonard - who performs a wild front flip in celebration - takes the fight and the title with a technical knockout.
