Adrien Broner vs. Vicente Escobedo
Cincinnati, OH
Gary Rosato
WBO 130
Adrien Broner came in 3.5 lbs. heavy on the scales and had to pay the Ohio commission $60,000 -- half of which went to Vicente Escobedo -- and meet a 140 lb. weigh-in limit on Saturday morning. He flagrantly flouted the second weigh-in as well (coming in at over 143 lbs.) and the fight was almost called off. However, Escobedo eventually relented to fight after his purse was negotiated up to a reported $400,000 from his original purse of $150,000. The valiant Escobedo, however, could not negotiate with the speed, power, and size advantages Broner brought to the table, and was blasted out in five when "The Problem" decided to shift into seek-and-destroy mode at the end of the fourth round.
