Instead, Clottey begins the fight schooling Margarito and appears well on his way to a decisive points victory before breaking not one but both of his hands. From there, Margarito manages to out work his challenger and retain his title via unanimous decision.

Clottey hurts and floors Corrales on a combination in the tenth, prompting Corrales to spit his mouthpiece out. Seated by a right hand in the tenth, Corrales is also docked a point for losing his mouthpiece again before dropping a wide unanimous decision.
