Unbeaten light heavyweights Antonio Tarver and Eric Harding square off for the right to challenge Roy Jones Jr. After a back-and-forth eight rounds, Harding breaks Tarver's jaw and eventually batters him to the canvas in round eleven to seal the deal on the scorecards, taking home a unanimous decision.

Echols was down once in round eight. Late in the 9th round, Echols landed three right hands that sent Barbosa crashing though the ropes onto the arena floor. Barbosa was given a count of 20 to re-enter the ring and regain his feet, but was counted out on his hands and knees at 2:59 of the round. The judges were split after eight rounds - 77-74 Barbosa, 77-74 Barbosa, 77-75 Echols.
