Former Heavyweight Champion Shannon Briggs gets one last title shot against WBC Heavyweight Champion Vitali Klitschko and pays a heavy price. Klitschko starts landing huge right hands in the fifth round and breaks Briggs's left orbital bone at some point, likely at the end of the seventh. Later, Klitschko has Briggs looking ready to go in the tenth, but the challenger somehow manages to stay on his feet and Referee Ian John-Lewis allows him to continue. Although Briggs survives twelve devastating rounds of punishment, he is shut out on the scorecards and hospitalized with multiple injuries.
