WBO Featherweight Championship
"Prince" Naseem Hamed challenges moves up to 126 pounds to challenge WBO Featherweight Champion Steve Robinson for his first world title on the champion's home turf in Cardiff. Hamed dominates from the outset, sticking his chin out at Robinson in the opening round, dropping his gloves and dancing in the second and shaking the champion up with an uppercut and a left hand. In the fifth, Hamed grins at Robinson before unleashing a four-punch combination that puts him down flat on his back. Hamed continues to talk to Robinson throughout one-sided sixth and seventh rounds in which the champion tries in vain to catch him with a shot. In the eighth round, Hamed jumps in with a left hand that causes Robinson's legs to leave him. He freezes momentarily before falling onto his hands and knees. Although Robinson is able to get up slowly, Referee Ismael Wiso Fernandez waves the contest over, and the prince becomes a king.
