Muhammad Ali vs. Oscar Bonavena

New York, NY
Heavyweight lbs
Mark Conn
In his second fight since returning from a three-and-a-half year layoff, Muhammad Ali takes on the rugged Oscar Bonavena for a shot at the Heavyweight Championship held by Joe Frazier. Ali taunts Bonavena during the early rounds and opens a cut under Oscar's left eye while trying to realize a ninth-round knockout prediction. As the fight appears headed the distance, Ali finally floors Bonavena with a huge left hook in the fifteenth round. Bonavena struggles to his feet but goes down twice more on left hooks, forcing Referee Mark Conn to stop the bout on the three-knockdown rule. Having become the only man to stop Bonavena, Ali looks toward a super fight with Frazier.
