The first four rounds were competitive and saw both fighters staying within range of their opponent and exchanging with precise punching and sound defense. Garcia had a strong 5th Round catching Remillard upstairs with power shots and backing him into the ropes. By the end of the 5th, slight swelling had begun to develop around Remillard's right eye. Garcia continued to lead the action in the 6th outworking and outlanding Remillard. In the 7th, Remillard began to move around the ring more and attempt to work behind a jab. Garcia continued to come forward but neither fighter landed with much effect. In the 8th both fighters fought primarily in close quarters with Remillard looking to land to the body. Garcia landed a left hand near the end of the round that hurt Remillard and sent him back into the ropes. At that, Remillard clinched until the round-ending bell. In Round 9, a combination at 2:10 put Remillard down. He was up at the count of seven. Remillard went down again in the round from a big left hand. He was able to make it to his feet at the count of eight and was able to survive the round. In Round 10, a right hand sent Remillard down for the third time in the fight. Action was allowed to continue as it appeared that the bout could be stopped at any point. Following the round, it was evident that Remillard's left ear had been injured and likely partially detached. Rather than preparing their fighter for the 11th Round, Remillard's corner called for an end to the bout.
