Making the third defense of his WBC Heavyweight Championship, Lennox Lewis drops American Phil Jackson four times en route to the stoppage victory. Lewis first knocks Jackson down thirty seconds into the fight. After scoring another knockdown in the fifth round, Lewis proceeds to put the challenger down again as they brawl after the bell, resulting in Lewis being penalized a point. The inevitable final knockdown comes in round eight, and Referee Arthur Mercante decides to call a halt to the contest, though Jackson is willing to continue.
