Welterweight Champion Pernell Whitaker moves up to 154 pounds for one night only to attempt to become only the fourth man in boxing history to win titles in four divisions when he takes on WBA Super Welterweight Champion Julio Cesar Vasquez, who has only lost once in 54 fights. Whitaker edges several close rounds to build an early lead before he is caught ducking with a left hand from Vasquez that puts him down on the canvas in the fourth. Whitaker regains his composure, but Vasquez loses his cool and is docked two points for rabbit punching in the ninth and eleventh rounds before losing his championship via unanimous decision to the all-time great.
