In the final defense of his IBF Lightweight Championship, undefeated Shane Mosley takes on the tough but undersized John Brown. Mosley hurts Brown with a right hand in the fifth round and has him wobbling after three clean right hands in the eighth, but Brown, who has never been knocked down, refuses to go. Bleeding from his mouth and nose, Brown is examined by the ringside doctor, who advises Referee Pat Russell to stop the fight before the ninth round.
