Joe Calzaghe vs. Mario Veit II

For the sixteenth defense of his WBO Super Middleweight Championship, undefeated Joe Calzaghe faces the same man he stopped in a single round in the eighth defense of the same title, Mario Veit, but on the German's turf for the rematch. Although Veit comes to fight, the outcome is essentially the same. The challenger lands some big right hands in the fifth round, but Calzaghe responds with a left hand that folds Veit up in the corner. Veit makes it through the round but is beaten to a knee early in the sixth. Although he beats the count, Veit's corner tries to throw in the towel; however, Referee Genaro Rodriguez vetoes the decision and allows the bout to continue. Seconds later, with Veit covering up but not taking particularly heavy fire, Rodriguez stops the bout anyway, handing the German only his second defeat and both to Calzaghe.
