Sudden Impact: Nigel Benn vs. Gerald McClellan
London, England

Alfred Asaro
WBC Super Middleweight Championship
Undefeated knockout artist and WBC and WBO Middleweight Champion Gerald McClellan moves up to 168 pounds and travels across the pond to face WBC Super Middleweight Champion Nigel Benn in a classic yet ultimately tragic fight. McClellan knocks Benn out of the ring in the opening round and down again in the eighth round, but Benn stays in the fight long enough to knock McClellan to a knee in the tenth round. Although McClellan beats the count, Benn drops him once more for the full count. After the bout, McClellan collapses and is rushed to the hospital to remove a blood clot in his brain. He spends two weeks in a coma, and, although he thankfully survives, never fights again.
