History In The Making: Lennox Lewis vs. Frank Bruno
Cardiff, Wales
Heavyweight lbs
Mickey Vann
WBC Heavyweight Championship
For the first time in history, two British heavyweights collide for a title belt when Frank Bruno challenges WBC Champion Lennox Lewis. The bad blood between the fellow countrymen boils over when Referee Mickey Vann has to force them to touch gloves during his instructions. Bruno comes to fight, boxing well and hurting Lewis with a right hand in the third round. Having fought Lewis on even terms through six rounds, Bruno goes on the offensive in the seventh but bites off more than he can chew when he is rocked and wobbled by a left hook. Lewis has him out on his feet with an uppercut against the ropes, but Vann breaks it up and warns the champion for holding and hitting. It merely delays the inevitable as Lewis resumes pummeling Bruno against the ropes until Lewis Vann stops the fight.
