WBA, IBF and WBO Heavyweight Champion Wladimir Klitschko puts his gold on the line against undefeated southpaw Francesco Pianeta. Klitschko hits Pianeta at will from the opening bell and puts him on his rear with a straight right hand in the fourth round. A left hook forces Pianeta to his hands and knees in the fifth, but the challenger forges on under heavy fire. At the end of the sixth, Klitschko again drops Pianeta with a straight right and a left hook. Although Pianeta barely appears to beat the count, Referee Ernie Sharif has seen enough and ends the massacre.
