"Fighting Harada of Japan, wiping out the only KO defeat of his career, won a unanimous 15 round decision over Jose Medel of Mexico Tuesday night to retain his world bantamweight championship. The champ fought in shrewd and cautious rallies to win the vote of the referee and judges and the cheers of 10,000 fans in Alichi Prefectural Gymnasium. Both fighters were cut in the bruising, fast-paced battle but there were no knockdowns. Twice, in the 10th and 15th rounds, it looked as though the determined Mexican battler would stop Harada as he did in their 1964 bout in Tokyo. But this time it was an older Medel and a smarter Harada." -Pacific Stars and Stripes
