After retaining the WBA Heavyweight Championship in bizarre fashion against Mike Tyson in June, Evander Holyfield next eyes revenge against the IBF Champion Michael Moorer. Just when the fight seems to be heading toward a repeat of the 1994 encounter, Holyfield sends Moorer to the canvas in the fifth round. Holyfield scores four more knockdowns, but the valiant Moorer refuses to stay down. Finally, Referee Mitch Halpern and the ringside doctor decide Moorer has taken too much punishment and stop the bout after the eighth round.
