Griffith knocked Toweel down in the 4th round with a right hand to the chin, for a three-count. Toweel was knocked down once more in the 7th and twice in the 8th round. At the conclusion of the 8th round, Toweel was holding his stomach with both hands. The referee stopped the bout between the 8th and 9th round, on advice of the ringside physician.
