Undefeated Michael Spinks captures the WBA Light Heavyweight Championship with a rallying performance against Eddie Mustafa Muhammad. After falling behind on the cards for the first half of the bout, Spinks lands some bombs in the eighth round and immediately causes Muhammad's right eye to swell up. Muhammad fights back but is floored by a right hand from Spinks in the twelfth round, barely beating Referee Richard Greene's count at nine. Spinks punishes Muhammad for the last three rounds, ultimately winning a unanimous decision.
