In the toughest bout of his young career, WBO Super Lightweight Champion Miguel Cotto faces a serious test in divisional gatekeeper DeMarcus Corley. Fighting in his home of Puerto Rico, Cotto scores a debatable knockdown in the first round, but Corley comes back to badly hurt Cotto with a right hook in the third round. After Referee Ismael Quinones Falu quickly deducts a point from each fighter for low blows, Cotto regroups enough to force Corley to the canvas twice in the fifth round. Without giving Corley a chance to beat the count, Falu prematurely stops the slugfest, ending a budding classic on a sour note.
