Newly crowned WBA Heavyweight Champion David Haye comes home to the United Kingdom to defend his title against former champion John Ruiz. Haye opens with a bang, flooring Ruiz with a one-two just seconds into the first round. Another right hand from Haye has Ruiz falling forward over the ropes and then to the canvas after a rabbit punch, after which Referee Guillermo Perez Pineda calls a knockdown yet evens out by taking a point from Haye for the foul. Ruiz goes down on a knee after absorbing a pair of right hands from Haye just before the bell to end the fifth round and again in the sixth, although Ruiz tries to claim they are caused by rabbit punches. Haye hurts Ruiz again in the eighth round and closes the show with some clean shots to the challenger's bloodied face in the ninth before Ruiz's corner throws in the towel to end the massacre.
