Ponce De Leon wins his second world title in as many weight divisions by unseating Gonzalez in a fight that was shortened due to a bad cut suffered by Gonzalez from an accidental headbutt in the 8th round. Ponce De Leon was winning handily by that point, and had knocked down Gonzalez in the 6th round. This was Gonzalez's 5th defense of the WBC title he won by knocking out Hasegawa.
