WBA Featherweight World Title (John's 19th defence)
Perth, Australia bout highlights, including the entire sixth round with the knockdown, and end of the bout. On the day after the death of South African leader Nelson Mandela, Simpiwe Vetyeka, the IBO World Featherweight champion, scored the biggest win of his career and claimed the WBA Super World Featherweight title. Chris John of Indonesia, after taking a brutal one-sided beating from Vetyeka, quit on his stool after the sixth round. John was down in the fifth round and twice in the sixth round, but only one knockdown in the sixth was officially scored a knockdown. Despite 18 successful title bouts, John was unable to compete with Vetyeka's incredible hand speed and power punches which put a tremendous beating on John all night. John informed the referee and the ringside doctor in his corner he was physically unable to continue. Simpiwe Vetyeka also holds a stoppage win over Indonesia's Daud Cino Yordan. As well as the fight with Yordan, John's weight issue is also one of the reasons of the loss. Vetyeka 'lost' a 12 round decision for the WBC World Bantamweight title in 2007 to Hozumi Hasegawa of Japan in Tokyo, Japan.
