Palomino was heavily favored to win. The undefeated Green was the No. 2 welterweight contender in the WBC ratings. The Associated Press reported: "A tremendous left hook to the chin by Palomino put Green down as though he had been hit by a bolt of lightning and the Briton's head struck the canvas with a tremendous blow. A doctor ran into the ring to tend to him and two or three minutes passed before he could be helped to his feet."
