Carlos Molina was outboxing James Kirkland soundly for the majority of the fight, but gassed badly in the tenth and was finally felled with less than ten seconds left in the tenth round. As referee Jon Schorle administered the count, the bell sounded to end the round, and a member of Molina's corner entered the ring despite the count being only at six. Schorle disqualified Molina and Kirkland was gifted a very lucky win that theoretically puts him in line for a shot at Canelo's 154 lb. WBC strap.
